Hatakeyama (畑山, Hatakeyama) is a the mascot of Saint Ishiyama Academy and a commentator of the volleyball match between the Rokkisei and Ishiyama High School.

The mascot is a large white cat with spots. The student who portrays him is actually a thin young man with slightly long black hair wearing a Saint Ishiyama uniform, however his true face is never seen.

He was a former volleyball player, who became cat... but this is actually just the school mascot's character who the student portrays and anytime he breaks out of character to say something of value (or to comment on Aoi's good looks), it is always met by hesitancy on the part of fellow commentator, Taeko Furuna, and a plead to return to character, and stick with "meowing." The true personality of the guy wearing the costume is mostly unknown, however he is a clear volleyball enthusiast and is somewhat absentminded and often forgets to stay in character.

He appears to work well with his co-speaker Taeko Furuna and she will often try her best to make sure he stays in character and both seem to get along fine. He does not seem to bare the same animosity for Ishiyama High School's delinquents and actually praises their performance during the volleyball match.

  • "Hold up a sec, 'kay? I'm getting in character!"
  • "Meow!"
